Public Health Outreach Nurse - ZIKA buy in US, Free Classifieds Ads

The Public Health Outreach Nurse (PHON) supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the investigation and reporting of Zika virus infections among pregnant women and their fetuses and infants. This position performs manual and electronic data abstraction, report development, and analysis, and educates the necessary entities on Zika testing, patient case management, conducting and augmenting medical record abstraction and disease surveillance activities within local health departments.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties maybe assigned.

Provides Zika-related information and support to healthcare facilities and healthcare practitioners (i.e., Primary Care Physicians, Family Practice Physicians, Obstetrics & Gynecological Physicians, Pediatricians, Maternal-Fetal Specialists, etc.), as well as provides outreach in the community.
Collaborates with Epidemiologists to support the investigation and reporting of Zika virus infections to the CDC U.S. Zika Pregnancy Registry and Birth Defects Surveillance Systems, through manual and electronic data abstraction. This includes pregnant women, their fetuses and infants, and Zika virus disease cases with severe clinical manifestations (e.g., congenital infection with microcephaly or other birth defects).
Communicates and collaborates on Zika testing, patient care, surveillance and service referrals with community partners, healthcare organizations and facilities, healthcare practitioners and medical schools (upon request).
Works with Epidemiologist to coordinate state and local public health department visits.
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with healthcare communities, local or regional College and University Public Health Programs and state and local health department leadership and staff.
Schedules visits and travels to hospitals, health-related clinics and offices involved in care for women with the Zika virus infection during pregnancy, or their offspring. Reviews and abstracts medical and health-related records of Zika infection, if necessary.
Ensures medical record abstractions occur during prenatal care, delivery birth hospitalization, and for surviving children up to three years of age; and that abstractions include all required information as outlined in assigned detailed data specifications.
Helps drive related public health actions by recommending surveillance improvements based on individual local health department needs, capabilities and limitations.
Supports clinical data reporting of all eligible cases that meet U.S. Zika Pregnancy Registry case definition. Reported cases include pregnant women in the U.S. with laboratory evidence of Zika virus (i.e., positive or inconclusive Zika virus tests with or without symptoms), prenatally or exposed infants born to these women, infants with laboratory evidence of congenital Zika virus infection (i.e., positive or inconclusive Zika virus tests with or without symptoms) and the retrospective inclusion of their mothers.
Coordinates with Epidemiology staff for the secure and timely transmittal of U.S. Zika Pregnancy Registry forms concerning maternal and infant follow-up. Implements all Registry data elements and required formatting unless state law forbids transmission of certain Registry data elements.
Reviews medical record abstraction data. Helps to assure data accuracy, quality, completeness and development of surveillance reports.
Complies with all policies and regulatory requirements.
Serves as a resource to state and local health departments and team members at the national, state and local levels.
Serves as a source of staff training, as needed.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.
Minimum degree requirement of Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and a minimum of ten (10) year's relevant LPN/LVN/RN experience. Experience in healthcare data analytical techniques preferred. Ability to speak Spanish as a second language is desirable.
Knowledge and understanding of healthcare data platforms and the interpretation of acceptable data results
Working knowledge of nursing theories and the art and science of nursing
Working knowledge of public health and related sciences such as epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics and communicable disease control, and the determinants of health
Knowledge and understanding of the Zika virus infection related to pregnant women, their fetuses and infants
Operational knowledge and understanding of relevant local, state, and federal healthcare laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA), public policy, and program / community development processes and public policy evaluations
Knowledge and understanding of bio-statistical methodology and execution
Skilled proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
